Convergia Digita Home Phone service uses a digital technology called VoIP [Voice over the Internet] that allows you to use your existing Internet service to make and receive regular phone calls. You will enjoy enhanced services like Enhanced VoiceMail, Caller ID, and Call Waiting just like traditional phone companies offer. All you need is a High Speed Internet connection and our Convergia Digital Home Phone VoIP Adapter (IAD) and your savings start right away.
Where is Convergia Digital Home Phone available?
At the moment the Digital Home Phone service is available for 514 area code.
To make a Local call... dial area code + number
To make a Long Distance call... dial 1+ area code + number
To make an International call... dial 011 + country code + city code + number
With Convergia Digital Home Phone you could be making calls from Montreal, and Vancouver next week, simply by taking your Adapter everywhere you go. You will not be billed for local calls, as if you call from Vancouver to Montreal using your Digital Phone, you will be making a local phone call.
What is considered a local call?
Convergia Digital Home Phone uses the North American standard set by the traditional telephone companies. If for example you have a Montreal 514 area code and you make a call in Montreal area you will making a local call. Calls out side this area will incur charges.
What about long distance calls?
To call anywhere in the world for free, both parties need to have Convergia Digital Home Phone. All Convergia Digital Home Phone-to-Convergia Digital Home Phone calls are free regardless of where they are in the world. Convergia Digital Home Phone also offers unbelievable world-wide long distance rates! You automatically get your long distance service along with your Convergia Digital Home Phone.
Does Convergia Digital Home Phone service work with all High Speed Internet companies?
Yes. Convergia Digital Home Phone service will work with DSL or Cable High Speed Internet from Canada's leading service providers like Bell Sympatico, Rogers Cable, Videotron, Look and many more.
Does Convergia Digital Home Phone work with DSL or Cable High Speed "Lite" service?
To ensure your Convergia Digital Home Phone experience is every bit as good as your traditional phone service, we do not recommend "Lite" Internet service. We recommend that you have "full" High Speed Internet (> 3 Mbps). Our Technical Services Team can not help you with any quality issues if you are using a High Speed Internet connection less than 3 Mbps.
Can I transfer my current phone number to Convergia Digital Home Phone?
Yes. It takes 10 business days to port your number. You will be charge one time porting fee of $25.When we send you an Adapter and you install it, you will be able to make outbound calls right away. As soon as the line is ported, you will start receiving calls. At that point you will no longer be billed from your old phone company. If you have a brand new number from Convergia, you will be able to make in and outbound calls right after installation.
Can I choose a telephone number from any city?
At the moment you can choose only 514 area code, even if you live in a different city. For example... you live in Toronto in the 416 area code but your mother lives in Montreal in the 514 area code. You can select a 514 number so that she can call you for Free!
Is 9-1-1 working with Convergia Digital Home Phone service?
Yes, Convergia has taken care of your 911 service. It is available and it is your responsibility to make sure that your address is updated.
Do I need to know a lot about computers to use this service?
No. Convergia Digital Home Phone service is very easy to install and you will use the same telephone or cordless phone that you would normally use with your local telephone company. In addition we will send you a detail installation guide with your Adaptor.
What do I need in order to use Convergia Digital Home Phone?
The only things you need to have are a High Speed Internet service (Cable or DSL) and a standard analog telephone. We recommend a cordless phone set. Convergia will provide the additional equipment required (Covergia Home Phone VoIP Adapter) to set up and use Convergia Digital Home Phone service.
When will my Convergia Digital Home Phone service start to work?
Your Convergia Digital Home Phone Starter Kit will arrive within approximately 7 to 10 days. You can install it and start using it in minutes.
Do I need to turn my computer on to use my Convergia Digital Home Phone service?
No. Convergia Digital Home Phone service does not require a computer, however, Convergia Digital Home Phone service does allow you to talk and surf the Internet at the same time.
Can I keep the service if I move?
Yes. If you move, you can keep your service and your phone number. You just need to have a High Speed Internet connection at your new location.
Can I use a fax with Convergia Digital Home Phone service?
Yes, you can. Convergia does support a fax line with Convergia Digital Home Phone service.
Will Convergia Digital Home Phone service work with my Alarm?
If you plan on using Convergia Digital Home Phone service as your primary phone service you will need to have your alarm company connect your alarm system to your Convergia Digital Home Phone. They will need to program the alarm panel to use SIA format. VoIP is very common now so your alarm company will know what to do.
If the power is down can I transfer my calls to my cell phone?
Yes, you can.
